Youth Employment & Training Programs
High school student and high school aged youth may participate
in both Goodwill based and community based services if they meet
eligibility criteria. In addition, students still in high school
may be eligible to work with the Career Connections program
Career Connections
Career Connections began in 2001 and is a partnership between
Area Education Agencies (AEA), Goodwill, the University of Iowa
and local schools. Career
Connections currently offers services in Benton, Cedar, Johnson,
Jones, Linn, Scott and Washington counties.
High school student and high school aged youth may participate

Career Connections prepares high school students to become productive
members of the Iowa workforce and assists area businesses in
hiring, training and successfully employing capable staff. The
Career Connections program works with students over a two year
period to prepare them for successful employment through:
- Skill and interest assessments
- Career exploration through job shadow, informational interviews
and short-term work experiences
- Forming a career goal based on their experiences and matched
to their skills and interests
- On-the-job training and internships
- Specialized training through company, industry or community
college classes
- Job placement in a position matching student skills
and employer needs
- Follow along and consultation for the student and
the business to foster success on the job
